We are disappointed daily by Donald J. Trump. There is no evidence of humanity or reason. We are left with the stark realization that Trump is just an animal in human form. There is no great strategy to his behavior, as some strive to find. He is living for what feels good in the moment. He lashes out when he is questioned and challenged. He says what makes him look good in the moment. Truth does not matter. Trump's appeal is to people's baser instincts: selfishness, racism, greed. We should remember that he ran for presidency as a vanity project. He let it all hang out, which some people thought was genuine and just what the country needed. But, he never ran to help other people. It was all about attention getting and parading in front of cameras. Now we are living with the appalling realization that he will let tens of thousands die because he sees no benefit to himself in helping them. Yes, we are living in strange times. Perhaps the strangest of all are the leaders we "elected". Is it all a cruel joke? And perpetrated by whom or for whom? These are perplexing questions. Donald Trump gifted us Bill Barr, Mike Pence, Brett Kavanaugh and Mike Pompeo in his trade for Christian Evangelical vote. He gave the Evangelicals, in another quid pro quo, something he considers worthless anyway. Christian humility, charity, obedience, and salvation are totally empty concepts to Trump.
