Robert S. Mueller III, the Special Counsel, dodged questions as he gave his farewell statement on May 29, 2019. He believes his report can speak for itself. He is known as the "by the book" guy who avoids politics. But in the US now we are at an intersection of justice and politics. Congress has not yet moved toward impeachment, even as Mueller mentioned other constitutional remedies. Why does Mueller not want to voluntarily testify before Congress? One would think that he would want to see justice done. Why would he sit by and let Trump get away with lies and obstruction? The role of Rod Rosenstein in the Mueller Investigation has grown in scrutiny as journalists report that he interacted with Trump in ways that question his impartiality. He reportedly agreed that the investigation was treating Trump unfairly and that he will see to it that Trump is treated better. Stephen Miller as a policy adviser to Donald Trump is credited for the Muslim ban and for the policy of separating migrant children from their parents. In early human history it made sense to look for protection and support from those related to us. It was a useful survival mechanism. But in the age of global culture it becomes less relevant. In a country of recent immigrants and as diverse as the US, it makes no realistic sense to advocate for separation. To blindly promote just those who are genetically similar to us overlooks qualities that are more positively and universally human. Yet there is a resurgence of White Supremacists and neo-Nazis, as if the particular shade of skin color really indicates anything of significance. What they would like to see is genocide. They are, in fact, willing to kill for the sake of their genes. This motivation seems to be hard-wired in some people who then find susceptible followers.
