USA Election and Pluto Return

 What is the meaning of the USA Pluto return? The USA was "born" under Pluto in Capricorn in 1776. Capricorn is the sign of the father or patriarch. People with strong Capricorn influences tend to believe in order, especially as devised by society and state. 

The patriarchs of 1776 were in fact our "founding fathers". The structure they set up for the country is outlined in the Constitution and the Declaration of Independence. As much as the founding fathers spoke of equality and justice, the society in which they lived was a far cry from that for the poor and the enslaved. Only men who owned property could vote and women had to wait until 1920.

What the founding fathers set up was functionally an oligarchy of White wealthy men. These men controlled everything of consequence. White men felt entitled to positions of honor and privilege. That was never questioned.

What the age of Trump is about is the defense of White male supremacy. It is the power structure of 1776 that is being challenged by shifting demographics and the rise of women. It is the old  inequality that they want to protect. As Pluto is coming to its exact return it brings this issue to a boil. What is going to be the fate of White male patriarchy? Will it survive with Trump as its head or will the majority defeat it?


Trump himself is the most grotesque example of a White male patriarch. He powers though by intimidation, outrageous lies, abuse of power, and criminality if need be. Yet, most of his base is perfectly fine with that. What Trump is is a fake. Trump was not a business success. What wealth  he has is courtesy of Russian money. Yet, every insecure White male will cling to Trump and his fake strength. You can only cling to Trump if you deep down know you are as weak and fake as he is. What they do have are millions of guns they accumulated to cling to their illusion of strength. And if Trump calls on them to fight, they may very well do so.

The ideal image of America has long been propagated as White and affluent. It became idealized through Hollywood, advertising and beauty pageants. The villains were usually some dark foreigners, not someone who looks like Donald Trump. Trump capitalizes on this image with his fake hair and tan. Most of Trump base can't match his affluence, but they can match his appearance. It has just become about racial identity.

The Pluto return is not fun business. Pluto transits tend to be jolting, shattering and transforming. These are decisive times and Barack Obama understood it and expressed it well in his address to the DNC. The future of democracy is at stake as Trump tries to invalidate the vote. But our lives are at stake too, as Coronavirus is ravaging the country. The lack of federal response is shocking. And why? Because Trump can't admit that he was wrong. Mary L. Trump told us that for Fred Sr. and Donald to admit they were wrong is unthinkable. It would be proof that they were weak and they could never allow that, no matter what the cost to others. 

Can we glimpse something of the future though Astrology? The chart for election day, November 3, 2020 is shown below.

   

A powerful T-square dominates the chart. The energies of Eris, Mars and Mercury feed into the conjunction of Saturn, Pluto and Jupiter in Capricorn. Pluto will be immensely powerful at this time being flanked by opposing energies of contraction (Saturn) and expansion (Jupiter). Saturn-Pluto hard aspects are correlated with reactionary forces being in power and usually the social consequences have been devastating. We have one such situation now with the wreckage of Coronavirus and a shattered economy. Only Trump can claim success. But, since Jupiter is approaching Pluto we can hope that the generous spirit of Jupiter can turn things around. 

There are other glimpses of hope as the aspects to the North Node (representing group or collective) are favorable. I will quote astrologer Roger Elliot with some descriptions: "entry of someone new into family circle", "start of a new lucky relationship", "time of destiny", and "responsible, grave attitude toward others." Since these snippets don't describe Trump, I am inclined to think that the fates favor Biden. It is also encouraging that Venus (representing women) is in exact quincunx to Uranus, which could signify rebellion by women. GO, WALL OF MOMS!!!

Addendum: September 3, 2020

Well, it happened. A seventeen year old right wing sympathizer killed two protesters in Kenosha, Wisconsin and a caravan of about 600 Trump supporters attacked protesters in Portland. They heeded the call of Trump to act against Black Lives Matter protesters. These protesters are the new target for Trump. Before it was immigrants. Now Trump directs the hate toward the protesters. Donald Trump and Boris Johnson: Men for our times ?

Are Donald Trump and Boris Johnson the right men for our times?  Do they really reflect where their countries are at this time?  It depends on whom you ask. The progressives would clearly say "No" because the chain of progress seems to have been  broken. Most of the less educated folks would say that it is time to dig in for a national identity, to bring back a more glorious past (MAGA) when they felt more honored and less threatened. The threat is to their majority, as the influx of browner immigrants is rising in number and status. This fear is at a primitive visceral level. They let the herd instinct take over. These are the people of the MAGA rallies. They are also the more economically threatened people. But, the top 1% has hitched on to this populist movement because they see that immigrants are scapegoated and not the 1% that keeps the wages stagnant and opportunities limited.
