Jesus said in John 14:6 : "I am the way and the truth and the life". In 2016 Trump said repeatedly : "I alone can fix it". Are there direct parallels between these statements? Is Trump making himself into a modern day messiah? Is he inspiring fervent devotion in his base? I think the answer is yes. He then puts himself up as the one who can take care of them, that he alone can fix it. Trump said that he could shoot a person on 5th Avenue and not lose a single person in his base. This certainly gives him encouragement to disobey laws, Congress and the courts. He was inclined to break laws before elected, but now he brought it up to another level. He is the most lawless president in US history. His power is that of a common bully and that is enough for his base.
Where does such lawlessness and aggression come from? It is true that his father encouraged him to be a "killer", but there had to be a conducive temperament to begin with.
