Trump and the American Psyche

Donald Trump demonstrates power by humiliating and defeating others. To Trump power means a crude and cruel infliction of pain. The image below is how he is imagined leaving the Oval Office.

This is both funny and sad. Trump can't admit he is a loser. He is dependent on the adoration of others to feel good. Astrologically, this is indicated by his Saturn being in conjunction to Venus and also quincunx to his Moon. He risked millions of lives with his insane rallies because adoration was more important to him than the lives of those people. It is no accident that Coronavirus is spiking in places he visited and that over 130 Secret Service agents tested positive. Trumpism has become a death cult.

Trump has been dislodged from the summit of power. For an insecure narcissist it must feel like death. He is rage tweeting and denying that he lost. The Republicans are afraid to confront him. Mary Trump believes he will break as many things as he can on his way out. Lawsuits and jail await him once he is out. Is there anyone to save him this time? Of course, he can't admit that the mess is of his own making.

Trump is mounting resistance to truth using Twitter, Rudy Giuliani and other minions. Trump is shockingly resistant to truth. Astrologically this is seen in his T-square of Neptune (lies, deception), Eris (shock and chaos) expressed through Mercury (thought, speech). His words are incendiary and designed to create violence and chaos. The power of these lies propelled over 70 million people to vote for him. Astrologically, the violence is in his trigger-happy Mars conjunct Ascendant in Leo. It is primitive male aggression.

What is it about the American people that made them responsive to him? What is there fundamentally in the American psyche that resonates with Trump? For that we need to look at America's beginning in 1776. The basic character can be glimpsed from the US Natal Chart. It is not a simple picture, but some similarities to Trump's own chart are apparent. The US chart is seen in the inner circle with Trump's planets on the outer circle.

Both charts weigh heavily in the signs of Cancer and Gemini. Cancer is the sign of family and clan. Gemini is a very social, but superficial sign. Cancer makes people distrustful and unaccepting of those who are not of their family. This can result in racism and narrow mindedness. This is what Trump tapped into. But the US chart is about more than that. The US' strong Saturn in Libra is about equality and justice and Moon in Aquarius is about concern with the larger society. The US Pluto in Capricorn means that the structure of the government is strong and well thought out. The founding fathers gave it a lot of thought.

The US came to be as a rejection of the capricious rule of Mad King George III. In 2016 as Pluto was approaching its Return in Capricorn, we got saddled with the whiney, childish Trump - a would be autocrat. He went about testing the structures of government that the founding fathers set up to see if they will bend to his whims. We are again being tested with all that Trump and his base can throw at us. The battle for the soul of America is still going on.

What will happen in the future? In the near future, around December 21, 2020 a significant transit will take place. The transiting Eris will be in exact conjunction to transiting Mars and they will square Trump's Saturn. This is likely to present as a pushback against Trump's authority and rules. During this period the transiting Pluto is opposing directly Trump's Saturn. The chart of transiting planets is shown on the outer circle with Trump's natal planets on the inner circle.

Previously, the Mars-Eris transit expressed itself as resistance from Congress, the courts, and especially Nancy Pelosi. The Pluto opposition Saturn transit has been described by astrologer Robert Hand as follows: "During this time you will experience changing circumstances and situations that may force you to surrender many things - material goods, relationships, principles - that you have previously held on to. You will probably resist these "losses", which is how you will experience them, with great tenacity and stubbornness." Robert Hand advises: " Remember, the truth works! If it doesn't work for you, it isn't true for you! This may be the most important lesson that you can learn at this time."
