Paul Manafort: Shady Adventures

People ask: why did a man of Manafort's background and education choose a life of deceit and crime? He was certainly not a Robin Hood. His spoils were for himself. He lavished himself with expensive real estate, designer suits and the now infamous $15,000 ostrich jacket.

The astrological sign that screams "me" in spades is Aries. Manafort has Sun, Mercury, Venus, Mars, Eris and True Node in Aries. This is Aries on steroids. A noon natal chart is shown below.

Manafort's Moon is in Taurus, the sign of material security. It is in stressful aspect to Neptune (quincunx) and to the planets in Aries (semisextile). This probably means that his dreams found a material expression, such as the ostrich jacket. In addition, the stressful aspects between Sun, Venus, and Mars indicate a person of strong desires.  Pluto square the Moon indicates that he felt compelled to be materially successful.

 This is a man who knew the law (J.D. Georgetown) and yet he ignored it. He willfully broke the law many times. He behaved unconventionally. In Astrology the planet of unconventionality is Uranus. Manafort's natal Uranus is square to Mercury and three other planets in the Aries stellium. His Uranus is  quincunx Jupiter and semisquare Pluto. His Uranus is unusually strong which made it easy for him to step outside the law and outside normal social conventions.

 British astrologer Roger Elliot describes the combination of stressful energies between Mercury, Saturn, and Pluto as "obsessive, stubborn, and unyielding". The stressful aspects between Moon, Neptune, and Pluto Elliot describes as "easily misled - almost wanting to get hold of the wrong end of the stick". This means that Manafort is strangely attracted to what most people would consider wrong. This may help explain the choices he made.  

 Manafort knew how to use power effectively, even ruthlessly. This is shown by the trine of Pluto to the Sun, Mars, Venus and Eris. With such a large number of planets in Aries Manafort is definitely ruled by Mars. This makes him bold, brazen and intrepid. While most people would not associate with Russian oligarchs, he sought such people. He had the audacity to deceive the Special Counsel and was falsely testifying for some 50 hours. Now he is in a strange game with Trump, hoping for a pardon which may not come. Is Manafort going to stay silent? Trump is dropping a lot of praise and sympathy on Manafort to keep him hoping. I won't venture to guess how they will resolve this, but I think it is safe to say that Trump will put himself first.

RBG and Antonin Scalia: An Unlikely Friendship

The two, now deceased, justices of the Supreme Court, Ruth Bader Ginsburg and Antonin Scalia had an unusual, yet true friendship. They managed it in spite of being most often on the opposite sides of the Court's decisions. For RBG the issue that was of prime concern was the equality of women.
