Mitch McConnell and Nancy Pelosi: Different Leadership Purpose
Mitch McConnell and Nancy Pelosi as leaders in Congress hold positions of great power and responsibility. One would expect them to be strong people, but inclined toward different attitudes and policies. Their choice of political parties probably says a lot about them. Do astrological charts reflect their strengths as well as their differences? One notable difference is the sign of their Moon, the planet that reveals our deep emotional predisposition. The Moon as our closest planetary neighbor exerts powerful effects on life on Earth.
In McConnell's noon chart (shown below) the Moon in Taurus is the central character. Its power is enhanced by energies from Mercury-Venus, Sun and Pluto-Chiron flowing to the Moon. In Taurus the Moon has a very strong orientation to the self and one's material security. It is a Fixed sign which usually means stubbornness and steadiness in face of opposition. It has great endurance.
Pelosi's Moon in Scorpio is the polar opposite of Taurus. It is also a Fixed sign that can be stubborn and steadfast. But, unlike the Moon in Taurus, Moon in Scorpio is about relating to others. It is a sign of passionate relationships. It goes beyond just personal comfort and possessions. Pelosi's noon chart is shown below. The Ascendant is not known.
Other factors distinguish the two charts. Pluto, the transpersonal planet of power, also points to their differences. The motives behind the use of power are different. For Pelosi, power is expressed through her thinking and speech (Mercury), and is constrained by the rules of Saturn, but is emboldened through contacts with her Aries planets.
For McConnell power (Pluto) is tied to his desire for prominence (Chiron in Leo) and it is expressed through his speech and relationships (Mercury-Venus). This Pluto energy gets directed to the Moon in Taurus through the T-square. His power is to be used toward personal goals as felt by his Moon.
These goals have primarily to do with material security.
Pelosi's motivations are different. Her Mercury in Pisces and Neptune in Virgo indicate a wish to serve humanity. The Chiron in Cancer indicates a need to belong to a group and to serve that group. Her Chiron also makes her sensitive to the suffering of others.
In contrast, McConnell's chart shows a very disturbing conjunction of Mars, Saturn and Uranus, which the British astrologer Roger Elliot labelled as a tendency to be "inhumane, given to cruelty". We could, perhaps, say that McConnell is not very sensitive to the suffering of others.
The Sun in Pisces in McConnell's chart might suggest some sensitivity, but it is swamped by the energy of the square of the Mars-Saturn-Uranus conjunction. The sextile to the materially oriented Moon does not help either. Other motives supersede compassion. If McConnell had a stronger and more compassionate Sun, he could have stood up to Trump on the inhumane treatment of asylum seekers, the suffering caused by the shutdown, etc. But sadly, McConnell accommodates himself to the shifts in GOP politics because it brings him prestige, power and material security.
